If Only

If only…

Regret.

Regret is real. Is it wrong to dwell on it? Maybe. Maybe not.

Regret is part of all of us. At one point in our past lives, we may have done something we should not have done, or we didn’t do something we should’ve done. We regret them now.  The consequences of our past actions may have an unfortunate lasting effect on us that we could not move on, and we say, “if only.”

If Only…

If only I stayed with you through thick and thin…

If only I left while I can still pick up pieces of me…

If only I stopped caring too much…

If only I loved myself more…

If only I said I love you often enough…

If only I saved more money…

If only I didn’t stop working…

If only I took care of myself first before others…

If only I picked the right friends…

If only I kissed passionately…

If only I left when I could…

If only I did what I should…

If only I traveled enough…

If only I read more books…

If only I cared less of what other people say about me…

If only I worked diligently…

If only I stopped complaining…

If only I counted my blessings…

If only I stopped doubting myself…

If only I took care of my body…

If only I listened to my parents…

If only I followed the right people…

If only I chose good friends…

If only I taught my children the proper way…

If only I shared my blessings…

If only I were confident…

If only I breastfed my children longer…

If only I forgave my mother…

If only I stopped being embarrassed about my life…

If only I believed in myself…

If only I saw all the goodness in my father…

If only there were more time…

If only I had more money…

I only I saved money…

If only I didn’t spend too much on useless things…

If only I didn’t waste my time dealing with nonsense…

If only I changed my attitude…

If only I learned a positive mindset earlier…

If only. If only. If only.

Regrets. We Have Them.

So many regrets.  I have more. But I must move on from them. I don’t think regret, per se, is a bad thing.  It is how we handle them when it comes back to haunt us that makes it good or bad. We cannot live in the past.  We cannot dwell on the bad and wrong choices we made.  We cannot run away from them either. They are part of us.  Without the memory of those choices, we are not the person we are today.

Yes, I made terrible choices. And maybe I still am making some bad choices today. Why? Probably because the choices I made in the past limited my capacity or my ability today. I got stuck where I am now because of those wrong decisions I made.  I can unstick myself, sure, but that is another choice that I must make sure I am willing to make.  I don’t want to decide on something that AGAIN I might regret later on.

Life is Short.

However, life is short. Time is NOT running out, but our life is. The word ‘ACCEPTANCE’ comes in. We must accept where we are now despite our regrets. Re-build your life where you are now.  That is something you can do and should do.

I still care, but I want to stop caring. I continue to love others, but I want to love myself more. I want to be free from the stress and anxiety of the world. I want to fly on my own now. But I regret that I clipped my own wings because of my own bad choices.

If only…

Regret is real. But so is REBIRTH, ACCEPTANCE, HAPPINESS, SATISFACTION, CONTENTMENT.

The past is over. Every day is a new beginning. There is always hope for a brighter and better day.  If we are blessed enough, we can continue to live and turn the “IF ONLY” phase of our lives to “WHAT IF?”
