At a certain point in our lives, we make changes. It could be a change of environment, a change in career, a change in the way we live our lives, or how we deal with people and situations.
We all have different ways of dealing with change. Some delay it, others do it immediately, albeit without thinking, and others, act on it intermittently or one step at a time.
Change is not an easy thing to do. When we are accustomed to a particular situation that is permanent in our lives, it is tough to change it. It takes some time to decide to change and to begin that first step.
“Your life does not get better by chance; it gets better by change.”
–Jim Rohn–
In my opinion, there are CONCRETE STEPS toward change, and these are the following:
First, make the DECISION to change.
The only constant thing in life is change. Change is inevitable. One has to DECIDE to change, whether it is to change oneself or change something. Deciding is in one’s mind. It entails a thought process. One has to DECIDE about WHAT to change. Making the decision is the easiest part of the process.
“Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end.”
–Robin Sharma–
Second, plan the HOW.
Once one has decided to make the change, there is a plan on HOW to change. Again, this is a process. Planning something is another process in itself. It entails DRAFTING an idea on how to improve. One has to number the plan by PRIORITIES or IMPORTANCE.
Third, act on the priority.
Doing or acting on the very first priority. This stage is more difficult as it entails the BEGINNING of change. There will be doubts, there will be uncertainties, and there will be questions. “Am I doing the right thing?” “Is this the right way?” “Should I have done it in another way?” These may be some questions that will arise from BEGINNING to change. This stage will determine if one’s plan to change will fail or succeed. If, in the beginning, one starts to doubt, FAILURE is inevitable. But, if one doubts but continues despite the doubts, there is hope in succeeding.
“To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.”
–Winston Churchill
Fourth, follow through.
The first step needs to continue with the following steps. It cannot stop in the first step. The follow-through may or may not be easier. Any type of change is difficult, but once it has started and continued, then it gets more comfortable in every step. It becomes constant, it becomes the habit, and it becomes the way of life. If indeed the change was for the better, then life will be so much easier and happier.
The permanent thing in life.
Change. Change is the only constant or permanent thing in life. It is inevitable. However, the change will NOT happen if one is not willing to do so. Most of the time, change is for the better. It is there to help one with life choices.
“You have to want to change for change to happen.”
Change NOW!
Today, if you must make changes, DO IT NOW. Start with the DECISION to change, and everything else will follow.
“Realizing something has to change is different from acting on what needs to change.”
