    My Journey to be Healthy

So, here I go again, talking about my weight.  At this point in my life, I am at my heaviest, and I am so getting depressed about it.  Indeed, I am fifty, fat, but fabulous (https://myshadesofemerald.com/fifty-fat-but-fabulous/) as stated in one of my blog posts, but honestly, I am also at my unhealthiest state.  In 2012, I was diagnosed with hypertension, anxiety, and panic attack disorder (https://myshadesofemerald.com/get-over-it/), and in 2017, with Atrial Fibrillation (https://myshadesofemerald.com/a-mom-with-afib-atrial-fibrillation/).  Although my hypertension, anxiety and panic attack disorder were results of stress, my bad eating habits had not helped my health issues either.  “Losing weight is a mind game. Change your mind, change your body.” — unknown I am…

Learning to Cook at a Later Age

When I was younger and still single, I didn’t know how to cook.  I mean, I knew the basics—sauteeing, and frying, but I never really prepared a whole dish by myself.  I was just not into cooking.  I remember when I was in high school, my mom was the chief cook at home.  She literally cooked three to four times a day.  She would cook at around 6 am for breakfast, just before I get picked up by the bus at 7 am.  She cooked again at about 10 am for lunch. Then, again for “snacks” (snacks are a must in the Filipino culture, and I mean snacking a whole…

    A Girl Called “It”

No. This title is not another version of the book, “A Child Called It.” This title is not about abuse.  It is about an identity crisis of a girl adopted as a young child. The young child was Me.  “One could come from less than humble beginnings, to become a winner from within.” ― Dave Pelzer, A Child Called “It” Separated Parents I was about two years old when my biological parents split up.  My mother left me with my father and went very far away from us.  My father was so young then, and since he had no job, he didn’t know how he can afford to raise me.…

Love Isn’t Love ‘Til You Give It Away

“A bell is not a bell ‘til you ring it. A song is not a song ‘til you sing it. Love in your heart isn’t put there to stay. Love isn’t love ‘til you give it away.” – Oscar Hammerstein II I was in 5th grade (back in the ’70s) when I first encountered this poem.  A classmate of mine wrote this in my slum book. I didn’t know what it meant back then.  I even thought that it didn’t make sense. Over the years, however, I found this very meaningful, very touching, and very enlightening.  “A bell is not a bell till you ring it.” Indeed, a bell is…

Things That Beginners Should Know When Creating a Blog or Website

I have wanted to write. I want to write about many things, particularly about family, lifestyle, relationships and more.  However, I did not have a platform to do it.  So, I searched online and found out that I can create my own website or blog where I can showcase my writing.  As I searched online about creating a website/blog, I found many instructional videos or tutorials from many different personalities who swore that it’s easy and simple and can even be monetized. I watched a lot of these tutorials, and two tutorials stood out for me.  One is by the Reese couple/family.  They are the authors of the blog; It’s…
